For many MSU students with disabilities, the COVID-19 pandemic has presented a unique set of challenges. Whether that be the enforcement of social distancing or regulated stay-at-home orders, the lives of our Spartans have changed, causing students to embark upon remote learning. For many people, face-to-face interactions create impactful and engaging social encounters that help them thrive on campus, and for some RCPD students, extra guidance beyond the academic and social support available at home has made all the difference.
Arianna Dickason joined Team RCPD during her freshman year at MSU and remained with us in her role as front desk student receptionist for the rest of her undergraduate career. In May 2020 she graduates with a B.S. in Human Development & Family Studies and Human Biology, and as we say goodbye, we take a moment to acknowledge the years of service and the legacy of excellence she leaves behind.
The RCPD remains steadfast in our support of students during this abrupt change to campus life. In partnership with MSU's Giving To, we raise the call to friends of RCPD: if you are able to do so, please consider making a donation in support of the important work departments on campus are doing.
Working closely with MSU’s Culinary Services, the RCPD is proud to support and encourage individuals with food allergies, as well as other dietary challenges, to eat on campus.
The Michigan Bureau of Services for Blind Persons (BSBP) believes in the capacity of achieving employment and independence for people who are blind or visually impaired. The award-winning program Transitions in Training was developed with the BSBP to share the benefits of higher education and job opportunities for students who are blind or visually impaired.

MSU is a time-tested community that brings together ambitious people with immense talent and desire to solve the world’s toughest challenges. Each of us play a role and we are needed today more than any other time in our history. Facing a novel virus has certainly left us a little nervous, uncertain, or even scared. That is natural and, if channeled, it is actually a catalyst challenging us to meet our highest leadership potential as creative, committed and valuable participants in this community.
Going to college is an exciting time no matter how you slice it, between pursuing a degree, meeting new people, studying hard, and being away from home (sometimes for the very first time!). For students living with cystic fibrosis (CF), attending college presents other unique challenges as well.
The RCPD is thrilled to announce a new iOS app called Munch. Designed at the RCPD in partnership with RHS and IPF to make dining at MSU simple, Munch can help you find food you want to eat, make informed decisions about what you eat, and connect with new friends along the way!
The Careers Collaborative focuses on strengthening leadership with a focus on career transition for MSU students with disabilities. RCPD welcomed a new vocational counselor this academic year, Mallory Godin. Mallory has been working with RCPD students to explore careers, hone employment skills, and secure internships and employment. This spring, the Collaborative will be hosting and promoting a variety of events, read more for details!
On a crisp spring morning toward the end of April, a large group gathers outside Beaumont Tower well before the dawn. They clasp hot cocoa in their hands and stomp their feet against the lingering winter chill, waiting together for the new year’s Tower Guard members to arrive.
During the summer of 2019, RCPD student Ellie M. took part in an Education Abroad program to the UK, which gave her the opportunity to travel to many exciting locations around England. At the start of the fall semester, we got in touch with Ellie for a little Q&A about her trip:
The Council of Students with Disabilities (CSD) invites you to an evening of pumpkin painting, cider drinking, and donut eating! The RCPD is thrilled to sponsor this annual event. All are welcome!
One of the most exciting parts about going to college can be the opportunity to earn credits in another country by taking part in an Education Abroad program.
