Ability Access Specialist, Hannah Huey-Jones, was recently invited to be a special guest on this podcast and share about the RCPD and its mission of helping Spartans maximize opportunity and ability.
In February, the MSU Adaptive Sports & Recreation Wheelchair Floorball Team competed in the 2023 Malmö Open Tournament at the European Parasports in Sweden. This team is no stranger to international competition, as this was their third time representing MSU and the USA in the Floorball Tournament.

During the last week of June, MSU hosted “Grandparents University,” a program put on by the MSU Alumni Office. Grandparents and their grandchildren come to campus, stay in the residence halls, eat at the dining halls, and enjoy lots of programming.
The Michigan Association on Higher Education and Disability (MI-Ahead) Conference took place on May 19, 2023. Staff members, Colleen Floyd, Madison Overbey, Ellie Brigger, Lynne Swerhone, Shelby Gombosi, Hannah-Huey Jones, Ginger Martz, Jessica Lutz, Tesia Freer, and Kelsey Foote from team RCPD were in attendance and some even presented at the conference.
MSU RCPD was fortunate to welcome intern, Mudita Jagota, to the team during the Spring 2023 semester as one of our Ability Access Specialists. Mudita recently graduated from MSU in May 2023 with her Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling.
Since joining the RCPD team as an Office Aide in September 2022, Kristin’s proven leadership skills and passion for helping those with disabilities reach their fullest potential, has grown into a new opportunity as the RCPD Leadership Development and Accessible Media Coordinator.

This spring, the RCPD hosted two informational webinars aimed at high school counselors and special education teachers. This virtual training provided high school counselors and special education staff with information about how to help disabled students make the transition to college.

Michigan State University's Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD) Stern Tutoring and Alternative Techniques for Education (STATE) program is an innovative initiative that aims to help MSU students with learning disabilities who are on academic probation or at risk of falling on probation.
Tower Guard, a sophomore student volunteer organization, celebrates their success of another year of service and community building. Tower Guard's vice president, Sakari Wilcox, summarizes their year and the memories they made together.
Jennifer Kirk, an instructor in the MSU Biological Science Program, is the recipient of the 2023 RCPD Spirit of Ability Award. This award is given to leaders within the MSU community who are compassionate and who create welcoming and inclusive environments that provide opportunities for all.
Christina Whetsel, a College of Veterinary Medicine student (CVM), will receive the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities 2023 Student Leadership and Service Award for her contributions that bring awareness, inclusion, and accessibility to the greater MSU community.
Megan Weil, a Zoology major who graduates in May 2023, will receive the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities 2023 Student Leadership and Service Award for her contributions that bring awareness, inclusion, and accessibility to the greater MSU community.

On the morning of Saturday, March 25 hundreds gathered outside the Michigan State University auditorium despite the rainy, cold weather. Community members, faculty and students came out to support the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD) which serves nearly 3,000 spartans.
Each year, the MSU Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities recognizes the accomplishments, leadership, and dedication of notable alumni. This year, Dr. Robyn Limberg, DMV, was nominated by Virginia Martz, RCPD Lead Ability Access Specialist, to receive the prestigious Outstanding Alumni Award.
In partnership with MSU Recreational Sports and Fitness and Occupational Therapist Cindy Horgan, RCPD is sponsoring two new opportunities for fitness and movement classes for MSU students with disabilities.
