Your experience with RCPD my be that of a student with a disability, a parent or family member, faculty or staff at MSU, an alumni, or a future student, but what is RCPD like for an employee working in the office? What motivates someone to want to work at the office? Angela Tripi gives one student employee's perspective.
Angela is a freshman at MSU majoring in Microbiology and has worked at RCPD as a student receptionist since August. \I like being involved with people and helping others," said Angela.
Working at RCPD means that she is empowering a community that is very important to her. "My older brother is deaf, and we moved across the country for his education," said Angela. "I've seen what can happen if people in service positions don't work to their full potential." Growing up with her brother, Angela experienced different aspects of society often invisible to others.
"I went to an all deaf church and saw deaf football games when I was a girl," said Angela. "A deaf person can do everything a hearing person can do but hear."
As a student receptionist at RCPD, Angela answers phones, welcomes guests, and assists with a variety of office functions.
When asked what she likes most about working at RCPD, she replied, "I really love the interactions with all the people I meet; it's great to be involved with so many caring people who work there."
From the perspective of the front desk, Angela has the opportunity to see how much work goes into setting up accommodations for students. "I've seen Pam setting up testing for finals and have 60 people set up times to take a final in one day," said Angela. "I've learned how much people are willing to work to make someone's education a little better."
