The time is now to start applying for scholarships and summer internship programs. There are many programs offered to students with disabilities, including the Friendship Memorial Scholarship, the Mitsubishi Electric America Scholars' Program, and the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaurate Achievement Program and Summer Research Opportunity Program.
All of these scholarships and programs have due dates coming very soon, so call your specialist or stop in at OPHS and get your application today.

The deadline for the Friendship Memorial Scholarship is March, 1996. This scholarship is available to graduate students. It was established in memory of Ford executives Richard Bentley, Robert L. Decker and Benjamin Muns by their wives after the men died in a plane crash. The scholarship was created to ensure that "the zest for life that these men had is shared by others." Phonic Ear & Oticon Double Student Scholarships for hard of hearing students provide additional funds for tuition, books and other educational expenses. The Sertoma Scholarship is funded by Oticon and Phonic Ear and offers a total of ten $1000 awards to students pursuing a four-year degree from a university in the United States or Canada. You must have a cumulative G.P.A of 3.0 and a documented hearing loss. Contact OPHS for more information.
Mitsubishi Electric America Scholars' Program provides an intensive, skills building program designed to prepare students with disabilities for graduate degrees in public policy. No major is required, but calculus, economics and statistics are helpful. Applicants must have completed their junior year and must have at least one undergraduate semester remaining before graduation. Application form, documentation of disability, personal statement, two academic recommendations and transcripts from all colleges attended must be postmarked on or before April 1, 1996. Michigan Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired will be offering scholarships to blind and visually impaired students. Information and applications will be available in March from Mike Hudson at OPHS. Also, scholarships from the American Council of the Blind, Michigan Commission for the Blind and National Federation for the Blind are available. Contact Mike Hudson for more information.
