As a national leader in high-quality programs for persons with disabilities, The RCPD is immersed in a multitude of exciting functions and partnerships in support of full inclusion at MSU. The RCPD employs a student serving as Public Relations Coordinator to ensure efforts of the RCPD are readily visible to the campus community by way of web content, literature, presentations and other venues as appropriate. Successful candidates will become fluent in all aspects of program function and community impact.
Responsibilities:
· Write, distribute, follow-up news releases and maintain media presence
· Write and edit articles for RCPD online Ability Blog
· Maintain the RCPD website and associated online links
· Promote the RCPD and its causes throughout campus
· Develop and implement creative ways to increase community involvement
· Maintain and expand the RCPD’s social media presence
Recommended qualifications:
· Extremely strong writing and editing skills
o Experience using AP style/ journalistic writing
o Comfortable developing, researching and publishing news stories
o Knowledge of press release formatting and media relations best practices
· Software knowledge including Microsoft Office and desktop publishing tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Publisher and Acrobat
o Graphic design experience a plus but not required
· Fluency in social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook and the ability to utilize these for the benefit of the RCPD/ to advance community involvement
· Creativity, flexibility, positive attitude, ability to work independently and in groups
· Open to undergraduate or graduate students
· Preferably at least a year availability. Open to students from a range of majors.
The PR coordinator will have tremendous flexibility to develop and implement creative strategies to promote the office. Motivation and creativity are essential, as well as good people skills and a positive attitude.
