Although it has been used "less than a dozen times" by university students or others, the MSU Union has had a TTY available for use on a check-out basis for nearly a decade, said James Sheppard, Union manager. Any student with an ID can check out the TTY at the convenience store in the Union.
The device, which requires electricity, can then be used at the public telephones near the post office, which have electrical outlets nearby. Store staff are aware of the TTY and are regularly trained on how to use it, said Sheppard. Signs to alert users of the availability of the TTY will be posted soon at public telephones throughout the Union. For more information, contact Cathy Estrada at 355-3460, ext. 227.
