Each year the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities hosts an awards and appreciation reception to honor the outstanding achievements of the scholarship recipients, the exceptional faculty and staff, and the generous donors who have supported the RCPD over the years.
Alena Krone, Public Relations Coordinator at the RCPD, spent the Friday morning of April 13th checking and re-checking the program for the upcoming Awards Reception. She had worked for many hours perfecting the layout and design of the program, and the end result was both flawless and beautiful. The very next Friday, her full-sized, meticulously designed program graced the tables at the RCPD's Annual Awards and Appreciation Reception. It was just one example of the attention to detail that made the event truly memorable.
This year RCPD celebrated its 23rd Annual Awards and Appreciation Reception on Friday, April 20th 2007 on the 4th Floor Club Level of Spartan Way, located in Spartan Stadium.
The attendees of the reception were invited to look out over the sunlit stadium as they enjoyed a variety of refreshments. Tom Izzo, the keynote speaker, commented on the pride and accomplishment that filled the room during his speech, and Piper Marunik, 2006-2007 President of Tower Guard, was present with several members to accept an award for outstanding service from the RCPD. The Club Level reception room was decorated in green and white, and a slideshow highlighting each aspect of the ceremony was played as laughter and stories were traded among the guests.
Following the refreshments, guests enjoyed an inspiring awards ceremony lead by Masters Student in Theater, Wade Curenton. The recipients of each award were congratulated warmly by those in attendance, including Harold and Phyllis Wochholz, who accepted their award for Outstanding Alumni via video from Arizona.
The 23rd Annual Awards and Appreciation Reception was a great success. A total of 16 students received scholarships totaling over $56,000, and at the end of the day, it was an event that will be remembered with pride by all those who took part.
