The resident computer genius at OPHS is Satish Shenoy, a graduate assistant who has been with OPHS since December, 1994.
His responsibilities at OPHS include troubleshooting problems with the computers and network at OPHS and advising staff on software and hardware purchases.
Satish's goal is to make people's lives better through computers. "My highest ideal is to see people smile when they use computers," he said.
Originally from India, Satish came to the United States for his graduate education in computer science. He considered such diverse areas as Muscat in the United Arab Emirates, the University of Wollongong in Australia, and the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada.
Other U.S. universities he considered were North Carolina State, University of Florida and Mississippi State. Laughing, he said he sometimes wished he'd chosen Florida, especially during weather like this.
Satish does miss his family and friends, although not all of them are in India. Two of his brothers work with computers in Singapore and his other brother is an account executive in India. His parents are also in India.
In his spare time, Satish enjoys reading, listening to music and attending movies. His favorites are Robert Ludlum, Meatloaf and "action, but not too much, with a happy ending."
Another of Satish's passions is travel. He has especially enjoyed traveling around the United States to North Carolina, Louisiana, Texas and California.
"Meeting new people is great," says Satish, explaining both why he chose to come to the United States and why he likes to travel.
Although he doesn't want to grow up, when he does, Satish would like to design and build useful computers that make people's lives better and increase their quality of life.
