The many successes and achievements of RCPD students past and present
"Hands on Internships Help give Valuable Information to Students"
While most people enjoy listening to the radio for personal enjoyment RCPD student Brian Romero took a more in depth look at the inner workings of a radio studio.
MSU graduate and RCPD student, Brian Romero, spent six months interning for Q106, Lansing's Rock Station. The internship was a rewarding learning experience with helped teach him the in and outs of the radio industry.
Romero's main task as intern was to work on all the editing responsibilities for the station. Few people know about the changes and responsibilities associated with editing. Romero spent a lot of time making changes to the radio station's many commercial spots. The time, speed, and placement of each of the commercial spots were some of the individual responsibilities Romero was in charge of.
The most enjoyable part of the internship for Romero was "tagging" a commercial. Tagging is the last 10 to 15 seconds of the bite when the vocalists list the specific sale dates, web site, business location, etc. In many cases Romero would have the opportunity to be the vocalist.
"I always found it rewarding to hear the commercial playing on the air with my voice in it," Romero said.
Romero's six months in the field helped gain a lifelong experience. He will be able to use the talents he learned while working in his internship and apply them to a future position.
