The robust turn out for the Diversity Equity and Inclusion fair is indication of a growing hunger from all angles for acknowledging the impact identity and belonging have in a work setting.
The Abilities, Opportunities and Future of Work Podcast is co-produced by the Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) and the Eli Broad College of Business with the objective of providing an opportunity to showcase best-in-class practices on burning issues related to how workforce with disabilities can be integrated highlighting firms, community organizations, not-for-profits and other state organizations that are doing outstanding work in integrating individuals with disabilities into the workforce and allow them to share their “stories.” The Podcast aims to fill the gap on democratizing best-in-class practices with the broader disability community that can help facilitate employment of individuals with disabilities, This is the first episode of a two-part episode.

These programs, made possible with the support of dedicated staff, generous donors and committed volunteers, exemplify the RCPD’s mission to maximize ability and opportunity for students, faculty and staff.
The MSU RCPD recently welcomed Tanya Adams to the MSU/MRS Careers Collaborative! Tanya will be filling the position of Michigan Rehabilitative Services (MRS) counselor on the MSU campus.
The Bosco MSU/MRS Careers Collaborative is a partnership between the MSU RCPD, MSU Career Services Network (CSN), MSU Rehabilitation Counseling, and Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) that focuses on career transition for students with disabilities. As a program that explores the development of professional skills and effective communication, the Careers Collaborative works to assist students in securing high-quality employment. While facilitating this transition, Careers Collaborative has recently provided internship opportunities to students--interested in Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, Disability Studies, or other related fields--for the support of the RCPD.
The Bosco MSU-MRS Careers Collaborative is a program that supports MSU students with disabilities seeking high-quality internships and employment opportunities, career exploration through labor market analysis, resume development, interview readiness, professional etiquette, and the improvement of academic-life to work-life transitions.
After three and a half years at Michigan State University and with a degree in Professional Writing under her belt, 2020 graduate Jill C. is looking forward to beginning her career. Having utilized the one-on-one guidance and professional preparation offered by the Bosco MSU-MRS Careers Collaborative (CC), she feels confident in her ability to identify jobs that align with her goals, and to navigate the interview process.
The Careers Collaborative focuses on strengthening leadership with a focus on career transition for MSU students with disabilities. RCPD welcomed a new vocational counselor this academic year, Mallory Godin. Mallory has been working with RCPD students to explore careers, hone employment skills, and secure internships and employment. Nikaela Losievski, a junior neuroscience major, is redefining boundaries in field research.. . During Summer 2017, Losievski traveled to Kansas and participated in an internship program at Baker University, which provided field research experience for students with varying abilities.
This dinner explored the concepts involved in presenting an overall professional image. Students learned how to make a good first impression and how to develop strong communication with a potential employer.
Recently the RCPD in partnership with the Michigan State University Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) hosted a professional prep dinner to provide essential resources to students, while assisting members and employees to achieve financial security, their goals, and ultimately, their dreams.
