Project Venture Overview

For students with disabilities, considering college comes with a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Project Venture offers high school students with disabilities the chance to “try on” university life through a 4-day interactive experience here at Michigan State University. Resident Hall Assistants (RAs) will have a critical role in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, supporting student participation, coordinating evening activities, and setting clear boundaries for a safe experience. Position Overview

Required Qualifications:

  • College Senior or Graduate Student
  • Experience working with high school students
  • Ability to supervise, lead and guide students to ensure a safe and enjoyable overnight experience
  • Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm, flexibility, and a genuine interest in supporting participants and the overall program

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as an RA, Intercultural Aide, or student leadership position
  • Experience working directly with individuals with disabilities
  • Familiarity with RCPD and the services we provide

All RAs Will be Required to do The Following:

Attend an RA training in May (date TBD)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students in residence hall
  • Round up students for evening activities
  • Coordinate afternoon and evening activities
  • Promote inclusion and participation by all students
  • Conduct floor meetings in the evening
  • Do bed checks at 10:30 p.m. & morning wake up calls
  • Enforce participation and behavior expectations
  • Attend breakfast meetings with program leadership
  • Call parents when students do not check-in on time
  • Ensure all participants are ready/present for first morning activities
  • Complete and turn in a daily report, final report, and  self-evaluation
  • Other duties that pertain to residence hall life and the supervision of the youth
