Rachel Leone
As I begin to look ahead to graduation, I need to say good bye as well. My time here at RCPD as the Public Relations Coordinator and Harbinger Editor is coming to an end. It is time for another student to step into the position and gain as much out of the position as I have. My work at RCPD has been an excellent addition to my resume and has provided me with invaluable real world experience. RCPD is now looking for another undergraduate student to fill the position starting in January 2005 with some training this fall. Time commitment is 12 hours/week with flexible scheduling.
In this challenging, rewarding, and paid position, a student will expand and develop new skills and have a chance to make a positive difference. As RCPD's only PR person, the coordinator will have tremendous flexibility to develop and implement creative strategies to promote the office. Some goals could include, but certainly are not limited to, working to increase involvement with the Persons with Disabilities Empowerment Fund, developing brochures or interactive presentations to provide information about the office, increasing media coverage of RCPD and organizing special events. Motivation and creativity are essential, in addition to strong people skills and a positive attitude. This is a great position for an above-average, creative, and talented student.
The new coordinator will be responsible for:
- Writing/distributing/and following-up on news releases
- Writing/editing articles for RCPD newsletter
- Taking photographs
- Developing collateral materials
- Maintaining media contacts
- Promoting RCPD and its causes
- Developing/implementing creative ways to increase community involvement
RCPD is looking for an undergraduate student, preferably at least a sophomore year student with at least a year availability. Applicants should also have a strong writing and editing background, graphic design experience, and software knowledge including Microsoft Office and Adobe products, such as Photoshop 8, Illustrator 11, InDesign 3 and Acrobat 6. The student should also possess strong creativity, flexibility, a positive attitude, and the ability to work independently. Knowledge of printing processes and the ability to work with local printers is also a plus. Students of any major are encouraged to apply.
