The end of the year calls for holiday cheer, and Tower Guard students prepared for the mission. This fall semester wrapped up with a never-been-done-before fundraiser aimed to raise funds to create gift baskets for children at Sparrow Hospital, located in the Lansing community.

Donations to the student-led organization made it possible to reach their goal of purchasing gifts for about 50 children and totaled to over $1,400 in generous contribution. By offering helping hands and extending kindness through the act of giving, Tower Guard was able to bring joy to families in unique circumstances for the holidays.

Along with giving back to the community, Tower Guard members also brought delight to fellow mentors who shared in on the experience. Ability Access Specialist and Tower Guard adviser Angela Sebald was impressed and encouraged by the fundraiser as well as the students’ participation in multiple areas of community outreach.

I think this is one of my favorite events Tower Guard has ever done. Not only did they partner with two MSU clubs, Making a Memory and Cozy Coverzzz, but their contribution and connection with our community were so powerful, not only for the patients but for the Tower Guard members as well,” she said. Sebald praised the student organization for coming together for this extraordinary cause which began its planning process in September.

With core principle leading to aiding persons with disabilities, Tower Guard students are continually innovating efforts to promote and facilitate unity within various communities. By reaching into the broader community, this fundraiser made it possible for others to view the giving and compassionate spirit of MSU students. RCPD is grateful for Tower Guard and all those involved in creating special holiday moments for children and families in unique circumstances this holiday season.
