Did you know that the famous English author and poet, John Milton, became blind at age 43 and went on to create his most famous epic, Paradise Lost?

Perspective on Ability

Michael Hudson, Director

It is an honor to serve as Director of the internationally recognized MSU Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities. As part of a community of over 1,200 registered people with disabilities studying and working at Michigan State University, I offer a snapshot of my perspective on disability; an approach that changes lives, inspires others and celebrates ability and opportunity.

While the onset of a disability is rarely welcomed and often stigmatized, I and others believe that a disability in itself is not disabling. Disabilities mandate determination, creativity and development of alternative approaches to common problems. A core principle of the RCPD is belief in the inherent abilities of those with disabilities. We focus on ability and advance opportunities for growth and independence.

I encourage all to review our mission, philosophy, functions and programs and join our desire to integrate persons with disabilities into all aspects of university life, the local community, and indeed, the world at large.
